Roland Peña
Roland Peña is the Vice President of Economic Development with the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. Through Opportunity Austin – a five-county regional economic development initiative, Roland leads recruitment efforts for high-value prospects in specific industry sectors that include defense innovation, software/IT, financial services, corporate headquarters and international development.
Roland enjoys a 30-year track in economic development and has had a successful business and consulting career. His most recent experience as Director of Economic Development at the City of San Angelo, Texas is replete with success, from the development of an ongoing project pipeline that achieved 155% YOY growth, to prioritizing an allocation of over $8M/year. He optimized the use of resources for ensuring sustainable economic returns while tapping into policy and operational level leadership, to leveraging best-in-class management practices for continuous results in job growth.
Roland has lead relationship development initiatives and successfully guided businesses through design and launch of new products, services, and investment opportunities.
Demonstrating his ability to not only build winning project roadmaps but develop high- performance teams, Roland has established a reputation as the steward of progress and change.
Cultivating public and private partnerships for economic growth and serving as a strategic consultant to several private corporations have resulted in a career cumulation of over thousands of jobs being created and retained in multiple industry sectors. His experience complements Opportunity Austin’s economic development success of assisting 1973 company relocations/expansions with the creation of over 175,703 jobs since 2004.
Roland serves as a member of both the state and national trade organizations; Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) and the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). He is an active member and serves on IEDC’s Marketing Awards Committee.
Roland holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Management and a Master of Business Administration Degree in International Trade, both from Sul Ross State University.
